Father’s Day

29 Jun

My father and I spent the whole day together this year, one on one…mano y mano. A great tradition for many but a unique gift for me.

The day included a typical take your dad out to brunch/breakfast etc… But what was spoken, heard, and shared was anything but typical.

For the 1st time in my life I heard my father’s story in detail…from A to Z.  I learned many a thing that day….where he was born, what his first car was, how he met my mom, what his fears are, and his joys to name a few.   I listened as my dad shared his heart with me and I fought to keep it together.

There is something beautiful and satisfying about knowing where you come from. It felt really good to listen and connect the dots not only in my mind but in my heart.

I contended for my father on this day.  I want to pursue him as my Heavenly Father pursues me. In these moments I experience God’s Kingdom here on earth. In these moments I feel free. Thank you dad. I love you.
